Preventive and Hygiene
Comprehensive preventive care includes far more than cleanings, hygiene instructions, and check-ups. During your visits to our office, we perform a thorough assessment of your oral health.
Healthy habits are foundational to keeping your teeth for a lifetime…and healthy teeth and surrounding tissues are foundational to great overall health.
Plus, teeth, gums, and bone around the teeth need to be healthy and clean in order for our dentistry to be successful! Allison Watts and her team are devoted to the prevention of gum disease, and we offer a full array of hygiene and non-surgical periodontal services to help insure your success. If periodontal disease is detected, we will recommend action to treat this disease aggressively.
Periodontal disease is a disease of the gums that can also affect the bone, and has been called the silent killer for many years in dentistry. Because it can be painless and asymptomatic, patients sometimes don't even realize they have it. Some of the signs and symptoms of periodontal disease are swollen, red, bleeding, receding or tender gums.
Bad breath can also come from the gums. We believe in early diagnosis and treatment of this problem because once bone loss has occurred, we can't get it back, and very often teeth are compromised or even lost. If there are areas of concern, we offer you the latest in periodontal therapy techniques. We also will not hesitate to refer you to a periodontist should the need arise.

Every time you’re in our chair, we review many aspects of your health. Subtle changes in the lining of your mouth call for a closer evaluation, regardless of whether you use tobacco or not. Early detection of oral cancer saves many lives every year, and we’re trained to recognize a myriad of oral tissue abnormalities.
Everyone loves the smooth, glassy surface of freshly polished teeth. Our registered dental hygienists help you maintain optimal health, which goes far beyond polished enamel. With a regular preventive schedule, we can remove the bacterial deposits that lead to dental disease. But we can also monitor for silent problems, such as tooth decay or gum disease before they become major issues.
Optimal dental health results from a healthy partnership between you and us. While we can provide critical support, your efforts every day make all the difference. And with the unlimited number of product resources available today, we can help you customize a protocol that works perfectly for your dental condition.
Gum disease continues to be the leading cause of tooth loss in adults today. A devastating condition when left untreated, periodontitis doesn’t have to write your story. But a strategic approach with focused treatment and home care is essential to control this chronic bacterial infection. Plus, this disease can aggravate other serious medical conditions that may seem unrelated to your mouth.
All of us have suffered from bad breath at one time or another. It is estimated that forty million Americans suffer from bad breath that never goes away. The term for this condition is oral malodor. Surprisingly, most people with oral malodor are not aware of their problem breath.
